This was our last day in Mexico 🙁 . We woke up at 6:30 to the sound of Bohemian Rhapsody being sung by the adult leaders. We had our final breakfast of tacos and beans. After breakfast we had our last devotion on the campsite, Brady Ross shared his story about building families and it was wonderful. We then packed up all of our stuff and got ready to go. We prayed with the kitchen crew and Amor and said “thank you” for all the things they had done for us this week. After that, we all got into the vans and headed for the border. The line at the border was very long and we bought churros and Coca-Cola from the vendors there. We waited in that line for about an hour, but the crossing was smooth and short. From there we drove to In-N-Out and had burgers and fries (yummmmmm). The weather was super nice so we all sat outside to eat and we met a pet wolf (at least that’s what the owner said)!

After that, we climbed back in the vans and headed to the YMCA for our FIRST SHOWER!!!!! It was awesome. We got to swim and play basketball at the YMCA for a while and then went to Torrey Pines church that we would be staying at overnight. The church was so nice and it looked like an actual college campus, or as Brady put it, “The La Jolla Hogwarts”.

After we unpacked our stuff a bit, we went to La Jolla Cove. During our drive, my van was blasting the radio and singing and everyone was so happy. Darby said it was one of the best moments of her life and I agree. Everyone was so genuine and happy and I am so glad I got to know these people throughout the week. At La Jolla Cove, we got to walk around and look at the sea lions and they were so cute. The sun was setting on the ocean and it was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. I took a moment to just appreciate all this beauty and soak it all in. We ate a picnic dinner in this park area and just watched the sun set as we ate pizza. This night was so perfect and I can’t imagine a better way to end this trip. Once back at the church, we circled up for our last worship together. We sang songs in a circle and had a “Say So”, where we shared our faith journey and what this trip has done for us. It was a beautiful and touching moment to be able to share our faith and express our love for this trip and for all of the people we gained friendships with throughout our time together. I am forever grateful for the friendships I have gained on this trip and am so blessed to have had this experience. It is amazing to me how most people come on a mission trip for the sole purpose of helping others, but in reality, the people you meet on the worksite and the people you spend your time with help YOU to grow in your faith and as a person.
