Curriculum Update

What would you do if you were assigned a huge building project to manage? Or told to step into the leadership role for an entire nation where every person would
depend on you to make the right decisions? How about helping someone else accomplish a big job where you’re
not going to get much recognition? Or, do the one thing you would be most afraid of doing, while everyone you know watches?

All of these are pretty big things and would intimidate most of us. However, God can help us do really big things. When our preschoolers are faced with big things,
we want them to remember to hop to it, because God will help them.

Our world is filled with things that are big and sometimes scary. When our preschoolers face these big things, we don’t want them to run. We want them to hop to it because they know God is bigger and will help them do big things.

HOP TO IT
WEEK TWO – 5/8 & 5/12
God helps me be a strong leader

Joshua gets a tap on the shoulder and is told it’s his turn to lead the nation of Israel. An entire nation! Not to mention he would be following in the footsteps of Moses, one of the most amazing leaders ever. Whew! Talk about a BIG job! But the size of the job
didn’t stop Joshua from hopping to it and getting the
job done. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous and that He would be with Joshua just as He was with Moses.

HOP TO IT
WEEK THREE – 5/15 & 5/19
God helps me help others

Week three, Aaron finds himself watching his brother, Moses, struggle to lead during a battle. Instead of ignoring his brother, he hopped to it and helped. Holding someone else’s arms up, literally, is a BIG job, but the battle was won and the rest is history. Moses needed help, and Aaron and Hur were there to help him. When they helped Moses, God’s army was able to win
the battle.

PACK A PICNIC
WEEK FOUR – 4/28 & 5/1

Week four, we will talk about something else
Jesus did to show He is a special friend. After He rose
from the dead, Jesus visited His friends, the disciples,
and made them breakfast on the beach. Imagine sitting
around a fire eating and listening to your best friend
Jesus.  Jesus is such a good friend that He wants to be with us always and forever.

HOP TO IT
WEEK ONE – 5/5 & 5/8

Week one, Solomon is given the BIG job of
building a temple for God. We’re not talking about a
shed in the backyard. This was a temple! And it had to
be glorious!  Solomon had to lead the builders, figure out how to move the supplies, talk with kings to get the supplies he needed…there were so many decisions. He could have said no,
but instead, he hopped to it! And, God helped him along the way.

Pre-K Visits Elementary Ministry & Pre-K Milestone THIS SUNDAY 4/28

Sunday April 28th will be a very special day here at Wayzata Community Church in Early Childhood Ministry!

During 9am Sunday School, our Pre-K class will travel to the gym to experience Elementary Ministry for the first time.  They will get to enjoy some games with our current 1st Grade class. Drop-off will occur as usual in the Early Childhood Center, Ms. Ashley and our high school teachers will travel with the group to the gym around 9:10am and you can pick up your child in the Early Childhood Center as usual or stay for some parent discussion followed by quality parent and child time during our Pre-K Milestone.

That same morning, following Worship, we also invite you to join us in Mithun Hall for our Pre-K Milestone.  This milestone is for families with children finishing Pre-K this spring and entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2019!

A child’s transition from infant to toddler to preschooler is a period of constant discovery for parent and child alike. From the child’s perspective, virtually everything he or she encounters – from the most mundane task to the most unique occurrence – is happening for the first time.

In this single session course we will begin with some time together, just as parents, to discuss and reflect on what it has meant to watch your child learn and grow through these first few phases of life and looking ahead to this time of transition into school.  The second part of the session will be quality time spent with your child creating some prayer tools to bring home and learning together how you can use them in your family’s regular flow of life.

If you would like to join us for this special experience, please RSVP to the e-vite below.  If you have additional children in Early Childhood or Elementary, they are invited to stay with their Sunday School groups for the duration of this class.  If you are planning for your other children to stay during this milestone, please respond to our poll within the e-vite so we have an idea of how many will be staying. We hope you’ll join us for all of the fun!

Curriculum Update

God created us to be in a relationship with Him and in relationships with people here on earth. He wants us to have friends, and He wants us to be a good friend. In
fact, He wants it so much, God sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to show us how to be a good friend and make a way for us to be friends with Him forever.

Friendships are a big part of preschoolers’ lives. Through these first relationships, they are learning how to be a friend, have fun with friends, get along with friends,
problem-solve with friends, resolve conflict with friends, and above all, love friends.

This month, we hope preschoolers will learn that Jesus is their friend—the best friend they will ever have. If our preschoolers finish this month knowing that Jesus wants to be their friend forever, that is a huge win! That will make it a very Happy Easter!

WEEK TWO – 4/14 & 4/17

Week two is all about celebrating our good
friend, Jesus. When the people were shouting and
waving those palm branches on what we now celebrate
as Palm Sunday, they really had no idea just how
amazing Jesus really is. Now that we know, we should
praise Him even more! Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay, Jesus!

WEEK THREE – 4/21 & 4/24

Week three, we will celebrate the event that changed everything. We call it Easter. This is when the meaning of Christmas and Jesus’ birth came full circle. Easter is when people realized that God sent Jesus to be our friend forever. Because of Easter, we can know God personally and God will be with us, always

MAUNDY THURSDAY, TENEBRAE WITH COMMUNION*
April 18, 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary
The service of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” has been practiced by the church since medieval times. Once a service for the
monastic community, Tenebrae later became an important part of the worship of the entire church during Holy Week. We join Christians of many generations throughout the world in using the liturgy of Tenebrae.

Tenebrae is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. Readings trace the story of Christ’s passion, music portrays his pathos, and the power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of this momentous day. As lights are extinguished, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death; we remember the cataclysmic nature of his sacrifice and through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ultimate victory.
Childcare available for Birth-PreK

GOOD FRIDAY, EXPERIENTIAL WORSHIP*

MADE WEEK 5 – 3/31 & 4/3

In week five, we will talk about what it looks
like to respect others. God made all people, so all
people deserve respect. For preschoolers, respecting others means using kind words, sharing, and playing together nicely. We can be kind to our friends, because God made them too.

Pack a Picnic WEEK ONE – 4/7 & 4/10

We begin this month with the story of Jesus
washing the disciples’ feet. Can you imagine how the
disciples felt when Jesus knelt down to care for their
dirty feet? Wow!  In this story, Jesus shows us that a good friend will do the hard jobs. A good friend serves those he or she loves.

March Curriculum Update – MADE

This month, we will begin laying the foundation for some very important future conversations around the subject of
sexual integrity. Before we ever talk with kids and teens about what to do and not do with their bodies, we need to start with who made their body and why that makes
them so valuable.

And a great place to start is now, in the preschool years, with this simple but powerful truth—God made me. Preschoolers need to learn now that they are wonderfully made by God, in His image. This makes them very important and motivates them to respect themselves and others.

Check out the hand motions for this month’s NEW Bible verse!

WEEK 3 – 3/17 & 3/20

Week three, the foundation will get stronger when we talk about how we are very important to God, not because of what we do but because of Who made us. We’ll unpack what
the word, important, means while we learn that every
individual important to God. Why? Because He made us!

WEEK 4 – 3/24 & 3/27

Week four, we will talk about what it looks like
to respect ourselves. After all, something God made deserves a little respect. Respecting ourselves means taking care of our bodies. We need to eat healthy foods, brush our teeth, and get
enough rest if we want to respect the bodies God gave
us.
