Saturday Seekers

Saturday Seekers
Saturday Mornings from 9:30-11:00 a.m.
via ZOOM, beginning September 24

Seekers is a discussion group. The topics are varied, social justice, faith formation and theology, current events, talk about opinion pieces we have read, challenges for us as individuals, our church, and communities in which we reside. Sometimes we have a guest speaker or listen to a video or film. Learn something new from many wise, reflective thinkers or meet a new friend. Courageous listening is encouraged.

Valerie Kaur describes some practices. “Deep listening is an act of surrender. We must risk being changed by what we hear. When we really want to hear another person’s story we need to leave our preconceptions at the door and draw close to their telling. We need to quiet our responses and not just partially listen… The most critical part of listening is asking what’s at stake for the other person. Try to understand what’s important to them, not what you think is important.”

If you are interested in learning more about this group we’d like to hear from you. Contact Judy Reed at reeddj2@comcast.net. We’ll add you to our active members list and share the Zoom code. Usually we send a weekly email a day or so prior to Saturday and let you know the topic for that week. We hope you can fit us into your fall schedule. All are welcome!

Note: Occasionally we will meet in-person, announcing that information as plans are put in place. We do not meet over major holiday weekends— so no meeting Thanksgiving weekend.
