What Is The Mexico Mission Trip?

This Spring, Wayzata Community Church will send missionaries to Tecate, Mexico with the mission of building houses for Mexican families living in poverty. These missionaries will be high school youth, college-age students, and adults eager to experience the personal enrichment of serving others.
This trip offers a unique environment for spiritual growth and a time to reflect on our role in this world. Each participant will witness what it is like to live in a third world country and have the opportunity to be a servant to people who can only repay such efforts with their gratitude.

In cooperation with AMOR Ministries of San Diego, California, each Work Team of 15 will spend three full days building a house for a family that presently has little or no shelter. By the time we leave, each family we help will have a house to last them a lifetime, and we will have a lifetime of memories.

General Information.

This trip is open to all high school students as well as college-age and adult leaders. Trip Dates are Thursday, March 28th to Tuesday, April 2nd. Trip Cost is $1,250 (if deposit received by 12/27/18). After 12/27/18 the trip cost may increase based on additional airline expense. Exact costs will be determined upon registration. Fee includes deposit, transportation, lodging, building supplies, and meals in Mexico. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due with registration. Trip participants must have a passport to travel.   • Tuesday, April 2 – Travel Day to Minnesota

A Note to Parents.

Wayzata Community Church sponsors a Mission Trip to Mexico because we know that it is important to provide fun and meaningful experiences for high school students.
Being part of the Mexico Mission Trip is a profound, life-altering experience. The opportunity to give of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually is unique, and to do so to improve the quality of life for other human beings is immeasurably rewarding. To serve in this way allows each person to more fully understand the love that is asked of each of us as Christians.

A word about safety. We would not lead people on this trip unless we believed it was safe. It is our number one goal to ensure the physical, emotional and spiritual safety of all participants. Note to Adults on the Trip.

This trip, at the root level, is a trip for high school students, but we encourage, and need, adults to join us. Having able adults on the trip is essential for safety and enhances the experience for all involved. We will do our best to accommodate the needs and gifts of the adults at every level of this experience without losing sight of our primary goal: ministering to the needs of our high school students.

Transportation & Identification.

We will fly commercial airlines to and from San Diego, California. Having a passport is mandatory for travel into Mexico, and takes up to eight weeks to process. Once in San Diego, we will be traveling in rental vehicles. In every case, only approved adult drivers will operate the vehicles for our group. We will be escorted into Mexico by AMOR Ministries.

Fundraising.

Every trip participant has the opportunity to participate in fundraising efforts that will lower the cost of their trip. We will employ two main efforts. The first opportunity will involve seeking people to “Sponsor with Love” an aspect of the building process. Click here to download the Sponsor with Love Card. Another opportunity is to participate in Bridge Builders. This mission project allows students to earn mission dollars for the trip through participating in service projects in the church and community. It is entirely possible to raise enough funds to pay for the entire trip. Any money raised above the individual participant fee will be donated to the trip general fund to help meet unseen or future costs. This fundraising opportunity raises awareness about the trip at the same time that it eliminates money as a barrier for anyone who wants to participate in this experience.
