Rev. Rustin Comer
Minister of Faith Formation
Rustin’s passions for teaching, preaching, and building community are evident across his 18 years of experience in church ministry. He loves creating a more just world by helping people expand their understanding of God, humanity, and themselves. He is known as a collaborative, creative leader with a passion for walking along side others to make a difference in the world.
Rustin embodies broad theological perspectives as the son of a Baptist minister, who has served in multiple denominations. He began his time as a pastor in a Baptist church, then served a community church and is currently a rostered clergy in the ELCA church. He holds 4 different degrees from 3 very diverse schools. He has a BA from Oklahoma Baptist University in Religion and Theater, and two Master’s degrees in Moral and Sacred Theology from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is currently finishing his dissertation for his PhD in Theology, Ethics and Culture from Claremont Graduate University.
Rustin, his wife, Heather and their children, Jackson and Hazel, live with their standard poodle, Ganesh, in Navarre MN.

Chris has spent the majority of his summers at camp. He was first a staff member at Camp Olson, a YMCA camp located in Longville, MN. He then found Wayzata Community Church Summer Camp where he has served as a counselor, work crew leader, head counselor, and a member of the program team. He is humbled to be able to come and serve as the Interim Camp Director, a role that is one of many within this thriving ministry.
A Luther College graduate, Chris went on to pursue music education at the University of Minnesota. He was the Choral Music Director at Mound Westonka High School while staying active as a musician in the greater Minneapolis area. Chris has spent the last two years in New York City serving as an Ensemble Coordinator & Production Associate with Manhattan Concert Productions, where also sang tenor in MCP’s in- house professional choir, Manhattan Chorale. His team produced a variety of hi-demand concerts at NYC venues such as Carnegie Hall, Apollo Theatre, Alice Tully Hall, David Geffen Hall, and other venues all across the United States.
Director, High School Ministry
Gabe joined Wayzata Community Church in November, 2005 to create new programs for high school youth. Although the ministry has grown and changed, Gabe continues to have a passion for developing high schoolers’ faith, along with mentoring students that have an interest in a career in ministry. After earning a degree in English from Miami University, he served for four years as the Director of Middle School Ministry as well as the Assistant Camp Director for First Community Church’s summer camp in Logan, OH. Gabe has had an active role at WCC’s Camp Ministry since its first summer in 2011. The impact his ministry has on the lives of students and families is profound and can be seen in the growing young adult ministry, camp ministry, and the number of high school ministry graduates actively pursing careers in service and faith.

Jordan has been actively involved with Wayzata Community Church since 2001. After graduating from Wayzata High School in 2011, she gained degrees in English and Technical Communications at Iowa State University in 2015. Jordan has been a part of WCC Summer Camp since it’s inception and it’s there where she first garnered interest in working with high school students. Through her incredible experiences with the students at WCC, she has become committed to a career in youth service. Along with fulfilling her duties with High School Ministry, Jordan is pursuing a master’s degree in social work with a concentration in clinical mental health with families and adolescents at the University of Minnesota. She is dedicated to serving students and their families, along with doing her best to lead by example and show that our church can make a positive difference on the world in which we live.

Christa Bowman Workmon
Director, Middle School Ministry
Christa was baptized, confirmed and was actively involved at Wayzata Community Church while growing up. After graduating from Wayzata High School in 2006, she studied Interior Architecture and Product Design at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS (the Little Apple) while being on the Women’s Rowing Team. In the spring of 2010, she studied abroad in Germany, and then received her Master’s degree in the spring of 2011.Christa interned in the WCC Middle School, Littlest Angels program, and worked at WCC Summer Camp for two summers. She left for Naivasha, Kenya in September, 2012 where she lived and worked at Light of Hope Home and School for Girls for 4 months. This was a faith formative experience for Christa and when she returned to Minnesota in January, she started looking for a position in Children’s or Youth Ministry. On March 2014, Christa accepted the position of WCC Middle School Director and loves working with the students at WCC.

Associate Director, Middle School Ministry
Nate joined the Middle School Ministry team in November 2016. Growing up, he attended a UCC affiliated church at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Delano, MN. Throughout high school, he regularly attending mission trips and summer camps through WCC’s High School Ministry and was deeply impacted by the messages and community he found there. Upon graduation from Delano High School in 2012, Nate served on WCC Summer Camp staff as both a counselor and program director. These experiences have inspired him to pursue a career in ministry and he is devoted to teaching young people that church and faith can be relevant to their lives today.

Director, Children’s Ministry
Jodie Nyberg is an Arizona native, born in Tucson and raised in Scottsdale. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and graduated in 1983 with a degree in Elementary Education. Before marrying and moving to Minnesota in 1990, Jodie taught 2nd grade for 7 years in the Washington School District in Phoenix, AZ. After settling in Minnetonka, Jodie continued her teaching career for the Minnetonka Public Schools, teaching 2nd and 4th grade.While raising her 3 children, she took 5 years off from her teaching career and ran a home daycare for teachers’ children in her Minnetonka home. Jodie returned to teaching in 2001, working part time as an Early Childhood Family Educator and preschool teacher. During this time, she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and wrote church school curriculum for Wayzata Community Church, her church home since 1999. Jodie is now beginning her 5th year as the Director of Children’s Ministries at Wayzata Community Church, serving families with children from the ages of birth-5th grade.

Early Childhood Integration Specialist
Hannah Cruzen, our new Early Childhood Integration Specialist, is no stranger to Wayzata Community Church. After spending her late elementary and middle school years around the church, she became an official member through the confirmation program in 2005. In 2011, Hannah was called back to faith life and ministry as Wayzata Community Church started their first year of summer camp. Over her six years at camp, Hannah served in six different roles: CIT, counselor, work crew director, head counselor, assistant staff director, and staff director. In addition to camp, she has served many other ministries at WCC. Hannah has volunteered at Rummage, attended and worked at Family Camp, been an adult leader for High School Ministry and the Middle School Mission Trip, taught Vacation Bible School, graced the stage in many Good Works Community Theater productions, and served on the Adult Faith Formation Board. When she isn’t at church, you’re sure to find Hannah singing and dancing, cooking up some delicious meals, and spending quality time with her close friends and family. Hannah now has her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and is excited to bring her energy and passion for learning to the Early Childhood Ministry at WCC and facilitate a new bridge with the children, families, and staff of WCCNS.
