A healthy, long lasting marriage requires that couples develop strong communication, conflict resolution and relationship building skills. At Wayzata Community Church we believe that it is important to dedicate as much time to developing these skills as you do planning your wedding service and reception. A wedding lasts only a few hours; a marriage is designed to last a lifetime. With that in mind, Wayzata Community Church requires that couples participate in counseling prior to their wedding.

Officiating Ministers
Once the clergy for your wedding is assigned, you will be notified and you may then make an appointment with that minister to discuss your service.

In order for our ministers to properly prepare for your service, you must schedule one to two meetings which will include both partners and your officiating minister. The first of these conferences, a Planning Conference, should be held at least six weeks prior to your wedding. Once you know which minister will be officiating your ceremony, please contact them directly to schedule a planning conference. Please note that once a minister is assigned, the assignment is subject to change if there are unforeseen church scheduling conflicts. Please know that we will make every effort to honor your request.

We do not rent our space for weddings. If you desire to have clergy from another church assist in officiating at your service, you need to discuss this directly with your officiating WCC minister who may then extend an invitation to an outside clergy to co-officiate

Marriage License
Either partner may apply for the marriage license at any County Service Center, with appropriate identification of the other partner. The State of Minnesota requires five working days to process a marriage license application. The license is valid for six months. The license is given to the Wedding Coordinator at the rehearsal and will be signed by the maid/matron of honor, best man and the Clergy immediately prior to the wedding. The wedding scheduler will process all wedding documents.  Two souvenir copies will be mailed to you. The original document will be filed by the county.

Wedding Coordinator provides a Wedding Coordinator, John Estrem, whose role is to make your wedding day run smoothly by taking care of all of the logistics and technical details.  He will see that all of the procedures and rules established by the church are observed and will ensure the integrity of the service. All matters of decorum and etiquette can be discussed with him. He has the responsibility to state and interpret the church’s policies and procedures to photographers, florists and any other vendors that are involved in your wedding. Mr. Estrem’s services are a requirement for all weddings held at WCC. If you are interested in hiring a private wedding coordinator, they should be aware that they would be required to work alongside John in this capacity.

We recommend that you contact John immediately upon submission of your Wedding Ceremony Detail Form. John will lead the wedding rehearsal the day before your service and will instruct all of the participants regarding their roles so that everyone involved in your service will feel comfortable. On the day of your wedding he will supervise all of the details for set-up and will manage all of the logistics of the service.

Please note that John is also available to be a videographer of your service and/or your reception. Fees are available upon request.

Wedding Music
You have chosen a beautiful church in which to have your wedding. Christian music for the occasion should possess dignity, warmth and vitality. Wedding music at WCC is set in the context of a sacred worship service, celebrating the love of God revealed in our love for one another, and, therefore, should be appropriate for the occasion. music performed at WCC weddings, instrumental or vocal, is chosen in collaboration with our organist, Kraig Windschitl, and is subject to approval.

It is recommended that you contact Kraig as early as possible to discuss your music requests.  Kraig has compiled a list of suggested music for your service and a CD that offers examples of these arrangements. It is recommended that you look at this list and listen to this CD prior to filling out your music registration form and talking with Kraig. If you have other music choices that you would like to consider, please speak with Kraig directly,

WCC is blessed with gifted musicians who are available for all weddings, including soloists, harpists, trumpeters and string quartets. Outside musicians and their musical pieces must be approved by Kraig or the officiating minister. Please note that we do not permit any recorded music in wedding services.

The Rehearsal

The purpose of the rehearsal is to acquaint members of the bridal party with their respective roles in the service. This will ensure that your wedding will be conducted in a relaxed but worshipful manner. Please note that the organist and other musicians do not attend the rehearsal.

Your rehearsal will be scheduled the day before your wedding and will take approximately one hour.  Please encourage everyone to be on time. It is important that the ushers, parents and all members of the wedding party attend the rehearsal. We recommend that you plan on one usher for every 50 guests.

Please bring your wedding license, printed programs and your guest book to the rehearsal.
