UPDATE FROM THE ASSOCIATE MINISTER SEARCH COMMITTEE

On May 21, 2024, the WCC Church Council approved the request of our Executive Committee to commence a search for an additional Associate Minister to join our dynamic clergy team.  In accordance with the Rules of Procedure, a search committee was formed. Members of the committee are Laura Babcock (HR), Bill Brann, Katie Dorn, Doug Frantz, Stephanie Foertsch, Rev. Danielle Jones (clergy), Jon McClure (Council), JP Rondeau and Kris Sanford (Chair).  The committee held its first meeting on June 17th and has been busy throughout the summer developing a position profile.  The committee expects to have the position posted by the end of August.

Why now?
As we continue to foster a thriving, inclusive and supportive environment for all current members of our congregation, WCC is also committed to reaching more people with the inclusive love of Jesus. As Lindy plans to move more deeply into her Emerita role over the next six months, this new clergy person will allow our clergy team to continue to care for the needs of our congregation, while also envisioning creative new ministry opportunities to enfold new people into our faith community. Expanding our clergy team now will allow us to be better equipped to resource the ministries of the church and to expand WCC’s ministry footprint.

Our current clergy are highly supportive of this decision and remain deeply committed and energized in their service. They have been instrumental in guiding us through challenging times and fostering the growth and vitality we now experience. Their unwavering dedication and passion are qualities we greatly cherish. This decision is rooted in our commitment to enhancing the breadth and depth of our ministry.

What will this new clergy person be doing?
Rather than hiring a specialist who has expertise in one or two areas, we’re looking for someone with exceptional people skills and leadership gifts that can be applied across a range of ministry areas. The individual we hire will be entrusted with a multi-faceted role, much like our current clergy, and will initially focus on a core group of key programs such as mission and outreach, adult education, and community life. These initial focus areas are designed to address our community’s immediate needs and capitalize on the new associate minister’s strengths and talents.

How are we planning for this new position?
The commitment to hire a new clergy person is made only after thorough financial analysis and careful preparation of our Finance Committee, Generosity Committee, and Council and is supported in our current budget process. WCC leadership is committed to ensuring our resources are managed responsibly and every decision is made in the best interest of our congregations’ spiritual and communal well-being. As a faith community, we’re called to balance fiscal responsibility with visionary expansion, which requires generosity, sacrifice and faith. Hiring an additional associate clergy member is an investment in the continued vitality and growth of our ministry and helps ensure that we can meet the increasing and evolving needs of our diverse and dynamic community.

Are there ways for the wider congregation to participate in the search process?
Absolutely.  There are three main ways you can help: 1) Prayer. The committee greatly appreciates your daily prayers throughout the search and discernment process. 2) Networking. By letting people in your wider network know about our search, the chances of us finding a great person increase exponentially. 3) Feedback. Members of the search committee will make themselves available to hear your comments, concerns and questions.
