January Curriculum Update – The Market
Preschoolers know they have needs and they are not afraid to let you know. That’s a good thing and something we want to use to help preschoolers see another need they have—a need we all have—and that is Jesus.
Yes, I need Jesus is the focus this month. And, we know from experience that the older preschoolers get, the more they will need Jesus. Life can be tough. Having a friend like Jesus who knows us, loves us, and has the power to help us can truly
WEEK 2 – 1/13 & 1/16
Week two we will hear the story of a deaf man
who asked Jesus for help. He knew he needed Jesus!
We need Jesus and we can ask Him for help too.
Sometimes we need Jesus to do what we can’t because Jesus can do anything!
WEEK 3 – 1/20 & 1/23
We continue with the miracles into week three
where Jesus heals a blind man. And He does it in such
an amazing way! Everyone needs Jesus, not just us or people like us, but everyone needs Jesus. And the best part about that is Jesus wants to help everyone because He loves everyone!
The Market Food Drive for IOCP
This month, your preschooler is learning about how everyone needs Jesus. One of the ways we are talking about our needs is through The Market theme, because we can all relate to needing food. Many children in our community struggle to get the food they need and their families depend on local food shelves, like IOCP.
IOCP is in need of donations after the holidays, and we want to help restock their shelves so parents can provide their children with the food they need. Last year alone, IOCP’s food shelf served 4,485 individuals (40% were children).
Your preschooler can help by bringing in one or more any canned or boxed food item or any of the following items that are most needed at IOCP:
- Cooking oil
- Canned fruits/veggies
- Healthy snacks
- Baby wipes/food/formula/wipes
- Paper towels or toilet paper
- Canned meat/fish
- Diapers – size 5, 6, and pullups
You can drop off your donations with Ms. Hannah on any Sunday or Wednesday. All of the items will be delivered to IOCP at the end of the month. Thank you for your help!
SAVE THE DATE: Early Childhood Sunday – 1/20
Join us at 9am Worship on Sunday 1/20 to celebrate our wonderful ministry!
EC Ministry children ages 2-PreK should be checked in and dropped off in classrooms like a regular Sunday. Teachers will then bring their classes up to Worship. The EC Ministry Choir will sing a fun praise song (click here to listen at home) and we will enjoy a little children’s moment to share what we have been learning this year. Then the group will head back down to their classrooms with their teachers to continue the morning with some play time.
After Worship, we will be taking over the East Entrance! Come pick up your child and join us for some yummy snacks and hands on activities you can participate in with your child.
SAVE THE DATE: Parent Education Night – Technology and Early Learners – Monday 1/28
By the time a child turns 3 years old their brain is 80% of its adult size. In short 3 years little brains are growing at a rapid rate, faster than any other time during a child’s life.
Over the past decade technology has grown at a rapid rate as well. Not long ago screens were limited to TVs and desktop computers in the home or office, but now we have a large variety of technology options, many at our fingertips through handheld devices. Research is starting to emerge about the impact this readily available technology has on our littlest learners.
Early Childhood Ministry and Wayzata Community Church Nursery School, along with Wayzata Early Learning School invite you to join us on Monday, January 28th
from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Wayzata Community Church Chapel for a discussion on how technology is impacting our youngest learners and how parents and caregivers can play an
important role in a child’s development.
Save the Date: Vacation Bible School 2019 – 8/12-8/16
We hope you’ll plan for your child to join us for our end of summer adventure! Children ages 3 all the way through 5th grade can sign up for this week of fun. Look for more details and registration information coming up in February.
