FEATURED ACTIVITY: MACPHAIL MUSIC
Hello Parents,
My name is Angela Crofoot and I am the music teacher for Wayzata’s Nursery School Enrichment Program. I work in the Sing, Play, Learn Department at MacPhail Center for Music. I am an Early Childhood Specialist/Music Therapist and have been with Wayzata for over 13 years. I have an assistant and I teach classes on Mondays from 11:45am to 12:45pm and periodically from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
During the one hour classes the students learn a lot about music through vocal development, steady beat, pitch, tempo, instrumentation exploration and creative movement. We play and have fun with multiple instruments that range from egg shakers to violins, harps, trumpets, drums and so many more. Each weekly class consists of a different instrument and theme as well as having a book read and an art project. We work on reading readiness skills, social-emotional learning, gross and fine motor skills and cognitive learning. Each year the curriculum is designed to fit the age of that particular group.
It has been a pleasure to teach at Wayzata Nursery School and I look forward to working with everyone again in the Fall! I would like to thank those that have participated in my classes. Students I have worked with have been very well-behaved and quick to learn! Remember, music is patterns, math and the only thing that works both sides of the brain simultaneously. Music is one’s heart and soul!
Sincerely,
Angela Crofoot

FEATURED CLASSROOM: EXPLORERS CLUB
New next year is the shift in the Explorer ‘s Club to an afternoon enrichment class 3 days a week to create a full day option for the Pre-K students. Explorer ‘s Club is an enrichment class designed to allow children to travel the United States of America through exploration of all 50 states. During our “road Trip Across America,” we will learn about the varied features of each state through a wide variety of literary, scientific and creative learning opportunities. The Explorer ‘s Club curriculum is designed specifically for children participating in the morning Pre-K programs, creating an opportunity for children to experience a full day program in preparation for Kindergarten. This 30 week enrichment class will be held in the Firefly Room on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-3pm beginning September 15, 2018 through May 29th, 2019. The enrichment class incorporates the following: –
- Literacy and math activities designed to supplement learning for kindergarten readiness, emphasizing letter and number recognition, phonics, introduction to beginning sights words and story sequencing. –
- Examination of the history and culture of each state, as well as significant landmarks, places of interest and prominent features. –
- Science through exploration of the geography, climate and wildlife of individual states, as well as science experiments based on geological, meteorological and/or other significant aspects of the state. –
- Discovery of noteworthy state characteristics through literature, music, theatre and/folklore.
- Creative expression through group and individual art projects that complement the unique characteristics of each state, as well as introduce students to various artistic mediums and styles. Spots are still available. We hope you can join us!
